Rukiya lives with her parents in a mud house in a community called Doblogonno. She lacks the basic materials to help her complete her education. Her parents are unable to provide for Rukiya’s basic needs because their work doesn’t help them to earn much of an income. Her father is a carpenter and her mother is a dressmaker, but they are not always able to find work. Rukiya has six siblings including two brothers and four sisters. Their family has access to drinkable water from a public borehole.
An education is so important in Ghana because it helps to break the cycle of poverty. Families in our sponsorship program earn such a low income that they are struggling to send their child to school. At the International Needs school in Doblogonno, children would receive a warm meal, a quality education, school supplies, medical care, and Christian nurture.
