Colombia Medical Team Ministers Through Medical Clinic

From January 30 to February 6, 2015, International Needs sent a nine-member Medical Team to serve the impoverished La Playa community of Barranquilla, Colombia. The group included a doctor, a medical/surgical nurse, and a professional hairdresser.

Other participants (including International Needs’ Global Ministry Team Coordinator Jodie Arroyo) registered and triaged patients, fitted people with glasses, distributed toothbrushes and demonstrated oral hygiene, and shared their faith in Christ.

Also included among the team members were three couples and lifelong friends Jeff and Karen Justice, Tom and Lori Clounie, and Stan and Jean Parrish.

The Justices and the Clounies were joined by their adult daughters and childhood friends, both

named Lauren. Lauren Justice Dykstra provided nursing care and Lauren Clounie shared her skills as a hairdresser.

The team partnered with Colombian doctors and nurses and one dentist. In total, nearly 1,000 services were performed, from haircuts to tooth extractions to medical check-ups, and over 400 pairs of eyeglasses were fitted and distributed.
