Jemmia lives with her parents and her younger sister. Before the pandemic her father was working in a car wash shop in Manila, but due to the effects of Covid19, the owner closed the business. Jemmia’s father traveled home to Leyte to be with his family and look for a way to support his family. His skills are in carpentry, but he is unable to find work. Jemmia’s parents began to work as tenants for farming. They plant crops but are not paid until harvest time. Once harvested, they sell the fruits/crops and the earnings will be their income. Unfortunately this income is still low and they use most of it to buy rice and basic necessities. Jemmia's lives on a mountain above a river. The surrounding villages are all rural, surrounded by many trees and mountains.
