Fidel lives with his parents, his brother Jakton, and his sister Rhoda, in a one room mud walled house in Kibera. His mother makes small scale pastries selling them in her neighborhood and also washes people’s clothes for a meager fee. This provides just enough funds for the basics for their family. Sponsorship would ensure that Fidel is able to receive an education. His school is a walking distance from home. Fidel helps at home by washing clothes and fetching water.
Kibera is the second largest slum in Africa. There is no waste removal or clean water, and open sewage runs through the slum. Education comes with a high price to the children here; they must provide their own supplies and uniform, which they cannot afford. Sponsorship provides school fees, a school uniform, lunch at school, a monthly food hamper, emergency medical care, and the Saturday Bible Club through International Needs Kenya.
