Savar Building Project

Bangladesh has the highest rate of child marriage in the world, with girls as young as 13 being sold through the dowry system. Although child marriage is illegal, it remains widespread. Nearly 51% of girls in Bangladesh are married before the age of 18, and approximately 15% are married before turning 15. Many girls are also vulnerable to forced labor and prostitution. These harmful practices rob them of their rights to education, health, safety, and the opportunity to grow and thrive.

For more than 40 years, Savar Children’s Village has stood as a place of hope, providing education, safety, and protection from child marriage and exploitation. Today, the Savar Children’s Village serves 250 vulnerable girls. However, decades of exposure to Bangladesh’s harsh climate have left the facilities beyond repair, making a full rebuild essential.

While this need is significant, it also brings a powerful opportunity. Construction has begun on a new multi-story dormitory—the first step in rebuilding the campus—which will ultimately double the Village’s capacity to serve up to 500 girls.

Your gift supports the first and most urgent phase of the project: laying the foundation and constructing the new dormitory. Once this building is complete, the focus will shift to developing a new classroom block and dining facility.

Thanks to the generosity of supporters like you, reconstruction is already underway. Progress to date includes assembling a fully staffed construction team; installing fencing, security cameras, and guards to ensure safety; and creating a gated access road to keep school activities separate from construction areas. Temporary housing, kitchen, storage, and office spaces are now in place to support daily operations. The old buildings have been removed, the playground relocated, and foundation work for the new dormitory has begun. A joyful cornerstone-laying ceremony recently marked the start of this exciting new chapter.
