COUNTRIES WE SERVE
IN Uganda
Country Overview
Uganda has been an East African country known for conflict in the north and west, a brutal dictatorship in the 1970s, and extreme poverty. With over 46 million people, recent drought and famine have affected food prices and made it difficult for small farmers to produce crops. Rural areas suffer from weak economies and limited jobs. Uganda is one of the poorest countries in the world with 68% of its population below the age of 25.
International Needs Uganda comes alongside people living in poverty with assistance to break the cycle. Since 1994, IN Uganda has worked to combat local poverty in Buikwe and neighboring districts by operating schools, a medical clinic, evangelism programs, and church planting. An active multi-year water, sanitation, and hygiene project has made a difference in many villages.

Partner Bio
Justus Miwanda
International Needs Executive Director Reverend Justus Miwanda speaks with compassion about the children within the IN schools. His testimony includes being abandoned as a baby by his mother and left in the care of grandparents with the words “take this child.” This early abandonment has given Justus a soft heart for children who don’t know where they belong.
Today Justus and his wife Deborah have three children of their own and five adopted boys who have grown to be teachers. Justus is not only a husband, father, and teacher, but also an ordained Anglican pastor in the Kampala diocese, ministering in a slum church among the poorest of the poor. Justus gives leadership to the work of International Needs Uganda, including primary schools that educate over 3,000 children.
